The quantum theory explains the behaviour of a sub-atomic particles in an atom. This theory is not meant for a human brain to process. However Quantum Theory defines common sense, it shows things are not what they seem to be, this is why humans have a hard time understanding it. In my Art Project, I want to send across the message that humans have a limit to their knowledge, and Quantum is the perfect example to explain this. Humans tend to not accept the fact that Quantum can be something which doesn’t make sense. In my art project, I represented the double slit experiment. The double slit experiment is about a sub-atomic particle in an atom, the electron acting as a duality particle. In other words, the electron acts as a wave and a particle as the same time. The electron acts as a particle when it is being observed and it acts like a wave when it is not being observed.
My art project painting was influenced by the famous painter Pablo Picasso. He is known for his abstract style of art. It may not make any rational sense when you first look at it; however they always have a deeper meaning. I thought this would go perfectly with describing the Quantum World through art. I used acrylic paint on canvas to create this piece. I painted two eyeballs; an open one at the top, and a closed one at the bottom. I used very light color for the eyes; light peach pink for the eyes to look nude. And I used dark navy blue blended in with some light blue for the lens for the eyes to stand out from the painting along with a really dark black pupil with a white dot so it look real as if something is shining through the eyes. I added in a really bright white for the cornea to stand out and catch attention. I added in colourful particles made out of Styrofoam for the picture to look more alive. I did the same thing for the closed eye except I made the closed eye a brighter shade of peach so they painting look colourful with different shades of different colors. I also added in colourful waves just like the particles on the closed eyes to show that when the eyes are closed the electrons act like waves. This concept describes the double slit experiment when the electron acts like a duality, thus many humans cannot understand that electrons acts like both particles and waves. Usually a human mind does not understand or accept the fact that the electron acts like both; they wonder how can an electron act like a particle and a wave at the same time? This why I painted a peach brain with two red arrows connected to the closed and open eyes bouncing off the brain, showing that it does not process the brain. The question marks were painted near the brain on the canvas, so it can better portray that the brain is unable to process certain information. I painted it well with a metallic color, for the painting to have a glam of sliver-ish grey. And finally, to make the painting seem more alive and for it to be appealing to the eye, I used sponge to paint the entire background. I sponged the canvas using different colors, one after the other so the background looks as if it was a mosaic painting. I wanted this painting to stand out and not look dull so I used light-white yellow, light pink, baby blue and a really light lilac colors, creating a pastel coloured combination . To complete the painting, I used black paint to outline the drawings so they can stand out.
