My goal for this artwork was to create something original that is both creative and relevant to the subject at hand. To do this, I decided to create my own version of a monopoly board, which has a special twist on it.
The subjects that are covered by this are:
- The light spectrum.
- The concept of paradox’s and parallel dimensions.
- The concept that our brains have an effect on our mission to discover the truth.
- Quantum theory.
My Main ideas:
On my version of the board, the starting point of “Go” has been replaced by “Point Zero”. We know that nothing in science is defined, instead, it is theorised. This rule also applies to the “Big Bang Theory”. Therefore, instead of the starting point of this game being the big bang, it is called “Point Zero”, leaving room for interpretation.
Each individual space represents a different possibility of what the beginning of the universe could have lead to. These spaces have also been associated with different colors. These spaces are read by saying, “The dimension of... +the name of the spot”. For example: “The dimension of ... no wars”, replaces the blue spot of “Park Place” in the original game.
The “Free Parking” space has been replaced by a “Paradox”. This space represents, like seen in Schrödinger’s cat experiment, a space where two different dimensions can co-exist as one. Landing on this spot will serve as a way to rest between two dimensions.
Every coin starts at “Point Zero”, and they have to role two dice to see on what dimension they will land on. This relates to the concept that the quantum world is filled with random events and it contradicts the fact that Einstein said: “God does not play dice with the Universe” which implies that the quantum world defies what is known to us by common sense.
In the center of the board, there is a spiral light spectrum that comes in contact will all the different spaces. (Dimensions) The spectrum comes in contact with the respective color of the space. Since each space represent different dimensions, the fact that the same spectrum of light is in contact with every single one of them shows that light is like a messenger between these parallel universes.
The “Go to Jail” space will be replaced by “Thought”. In this case, the true prison is our brain, it hold us back from discovering the truth. When you start thinking, you use your brain, therefore you are limited on what you can discover. Landing on “Thought” stops you from moving forward.
Not all spaces on the board represent a universe, there are some spaces that represent nothing, that are quantized. These spaces do not come in contact with the light spectrum, therefore leaving dark spaces between universes, spaces that could be made up of dark matter where nothing exists. Landing on this space forces you to move either backward or forward. (Odd dice role = backward, even dice role = forward)
On the reverse side of the board, we see the representation of an atom. This shows that even though we theorised the atom as one thing, there could be an entire world happening that we are completely clueless about.
The point of this game is trying to explore every single dimension in order to discover the truth. However, the further you explore (move into) the board, the closer you are to coming back to the very beginning.
