It could be a painting, drawing, collage, video clip, etc. The work should include scientific ideas studied in this course, with special emphasis on the Quantum Theory. However, you are free to incorporate ideas from other courses and your previous knowledge. You need to start preparing for this project right away, since this activity requires intensive reflection upon the material covered. In this first draft, you are expected to explain in which direction you want your project to go, along with how you plan to realize it. Think about the topics that interest you, and how you can convey those ideas with a creative and personal outlook. You also need to decide the type of artwork you will create. Do you feel comfortable (and confident) painting a canvas? Or do you prefer a collage? Or would you like to assemble something in wood, for example? Which textures and materials are you planning to use? Have you thought about the colors that would enhance the visual appeal of your work?
In this first draft, describe your ideas along with what and how you are planning to create an artwork.
To give you some ideas, please refer to the artwork of previous students in the Student Gallery. Bear in mind that these are only examples. Yours should be your own creation. Copying works from published sources or the internet is considered plagiarism. Make sure your creation is original.
For paintings, avoid using letter-sized paper or canvas because of the limitations imposed by the small space. Consider working with larger sizes. I would like to recommend that you use at least the size of an A2 page, which is 420 mm x 594 mm. I would also like to suggest the use of bright colors to enhance the visual impact. Avoid working with only pencil or charcoal.
Submit your first written draft by the due date. If you do so, I can give you feedback before you start the artwork itself. Remember that it is just a first written draft. You might change and adapt this draft based on the feedback you receive. What I want to see now is that you are actively thinking about the project while all the ideas are still fresh in your mind.
The criteria for grading the artwork is also included so you know what will be evaluated in the final stage.
