Changes from the first draft:
Due to many reasons, a few things had to be changed from the first idea I had of my painting. In the majority of the cases they weren’t really important, because my painting the same signification that I wanted. Indeed, the first problems were due to my painting skills. I personally thought that it was drawing on a paper, but it is definitely different. Indeed, my first try was a disaster, so I needed to simplify my idea or find a new one. This is the reason why I chose to completely eliminate the body of the man holding each planet. Also in the same logic, I preferred to represent just one case and not many others cases, were anonymous men are holding different planets. And finally I replaced the fisherman with a businessman (to make a closer relation with the viewer). As for the rest everything is as it was said before.
Explanation of my ideas:
To make a short description of my final painting, there is a hand that is holding the Earth surrounding by some light and complete darkness. Like I said it in the first draft, the first symbol is the huge hand holding the planet Earth. The meaning of this position is the theory of relativity. Indeed, as we all come from the same background, the views we have are usually very similar.
Then, for what is of the businessman on the planet, it shows the human present on the planet who continues having a normal life. Like I said it before, the fisherman was changed for a businessman because it better represents the value’s of today’s society as well as it would have been hard putting the fisherman on top of the planet, as it is not complete.
The background of the drawing is simply black. The main reason is to represent the complete isolation. In other words, I wanted to express the total emptiness which is represented by a deep blackness, found generally in between the light wavelengths of hydrogen, helium and barium. To make exception to the darkness, there is a little bit of yellow surrounding all the objects in the painting. Indeed, the color which makes reference to the sun also, is symbolising the speed of light. As the idea represented, doesn’t take place on Earth but instead in space or somewhere unknown, the speed and space are much bigger. This also shows that all that happens around our civilisation and planet isn’t visible to us as it goes much faster than our living mode (a supposition). Finally, it makes reference to the Chinese symbol ying yang, were nothing is pure and perfect; black can’t exist without white and vice versa.
To conclude, I wished to be able to put some cubism in my painting so that I refer to Picasso’s extraordinary work also, but my painting skills were too poor for such a job.
