As a musician, I am constantly aware of the sounds around me. This art project is meant to convey how I incorporate science, in this case the idea of light waves and particles, combined with the light spectrum and the idea of light being quantized, and art – a piece of music that is completely of my own making.

The piece of music is written using both the treble and bass clefs in order to make use of all the notes found on the lines of the music staff. This way the idea of light being quantized is expressed because none of the notes are to be found in between the staff lines. Each note will be a different colour, signifying the different levels of energy found in photons. In the case of rests, they will not be included as photons.

The waves, or staff lines, in this case, signify how light can also be a wave, not just a particle. Each staff line will have a different colour representing the varying wavelengths of visible light, from red, being the lower notes, to violet for the higher notes. This will be used for the treble notes and the bass notes – therefore, the treble clef will be a separate spectrum from the bass clef, however, not the rests or ties, which have no sound, or in this case, do not represent light.

This piece of music is meant to be soothing and bring the mind peace. Its combination of treble and bass notes complements the colours of the light spectrum in that they come together to make one song, much like the light spectrum, when all the colours are put together, make “white” light.
